Dee Mesa, of Off The Wall Barbershop, said that as female barbers, her business partner and herself are in the minority of the gender demographic in that field, but female barbers are becoming more and more common.
“A hair stylist will probably do 4 clients a day, we’re gonna do 30,” said Dee Mesa on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. “And we’re gonna make about the same”
“There’s not very many women barbers out there,” said Dee Mesa. “It's becoming common now, but it wasn’t common 10 years ago.”
Deatra (Dee) Mesa and Cheyenne Heady opened Off The Wall Barbershop early in 2023. Off The Wall gained attention as they became known for their sensory-friendly haircuts. As a walk-in based shop, they accept everyone for haircuts, but Cheyenne’s experience with her own autistic son, they have become well known for their skill in that area.
