Midland Fire Department (MFD) announces the operational commencement of unit EMS 4 in a Facebook post on their Facebook page. EMS 4 is based out of Station 4 which is located at 5100 N. Big Spring. EMS 4 will be a full-time unit and accomplishes different objectives to better serve the city of Midland.

The introduction of EMS 4 enhances Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response for citizens in District 4 and facilitates an initial 5-man response to fire calls in District 4, with Engine 4 staffed by 3 personnel and EMS 4 by 2. This is made possible as all Midland Fire Department personnel are cross-trained for both fire and EMS.

Additionally, the addition of EMS 4 leads to increased availability of units that historically covered District 4 which allows units to quickly respond to incidents in their respective districts.

According to the Facebook post, the statistics from 2023 reveal a demand for EMS services in Fire District 4, with a total of 1,126 EMS calls. These calls were addressed by the seven other frontline units, with EMS 3 handling 683 runs and EMS 8 covering 259 runs.

The year 2022 witnessed a total of 14,835 EMS calls for service by MFD. In 2023, there was a notable surge, marking a 24.8% increase, with a total of 18,516 EMS runs.

MFD has a total of 11 fire stations located throughout the city of Midland. Certain stations offer specialized services, including HAZMAT, brush trucks, and high-angle rescue capabilities.

The City of Midland Fire Department holds an ISO 1 (Class 1) designation, signifying the highest rating on the scale where a score of 1 is the best and a score of 10 is on the lower end. The ISO fire rating is assigned by the Insurance Services Office to fire departments and insurance companies and serves as an indicator of a community and area's level of preparedness for fires.
