Starfighters Space Inc.'s expansion to the Midland International Air & Space Port signifies growth in the city's aerospace sector.

According to the Midland Development Corporation (MDC), they are collaborating with Starfighters Space to secure Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for a high-speed airspace corridor between Midland and Spaceport America in New Mexico. This initiative aims to position Midland as a significant player in the aerospace and high-speed flight industries.

Starfighters Space is currently the only company operating a commercial fleet of aircraft capable of sustained MACH 2+ speeds and air-launching payloads at altitude. "As a strategic southwestern hub, Midland will enable our aircraft to reach these various military operating areas much quicker and in a more cost-effective manner," said Starfighters Space CEO Rick Svetkoff when announcing the development of its second launch facility in the city due to its potential as a "hypersonic test corridor."

An economic development agreement approved by City Council stipulates that Starfighters Space's location at the Midland International Air & Space Port will host at least $78 million in capital assets and equipment in a new construction hangar owned by MDC, according to a news release. The initiative requires the company to provide 23 full-time jobs by December 2033. Starfighters Space is currently relocating F-104 Starfighters, engines, and engine stands to the city, with five jets and a DC-9 Zero G Test Bed expected on-site by the end of next year's first quarter.
