Midland cattle ranch owner: ‘The United States has some of the healthiest, cleanest meat there is in the world’

John Scharbauer | Best of Midland podcast on Youtube

John Scharbauer, owner of Midland Meat Company, said his cattle ranch produces an all natural product for the consumers who pay attention to the foods they eat. Scharbauer joined the Best of Midland podcast to talk about his company and his family’s legacy.

“The sad thing is, a lot of the beef in this country that you're buying is not from this country,” said Scharbauer on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. “And when you realize the major packers controlling the market, they're the ones kind of setting a lot of that stuff out in the market and those cattle and that beef coming from other places might not be as regulated as the United States.”

“The United States has some of the healthiest, cleanest meat there is in the world, if not the cleanest,” Scharbauer said. “And just knowing what's there and what you're eating, it's important. We take pride in raising all natural products, something with no steroids or hormones or you know antibiotics.”

John Scharbauer is a part of the Scharbauer family, which has deep roots in Midland’s history, with their cattle ranch dating back to the 1880s. The family has also helped to develop much of Midland’s infrastructure, including a hotel, a radio station, and a butcher shop in town. Scharbauer started the Midland Meat Company in 2015 as an extension of the ranching business.
