City of Midland, groundbreaking ceremony | Midland Times

The City of Midland held a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 10 for a new Costco store northwest of the intersection of State Highway 191 and State Highway 158. The 174,000 square-foot facility, which will be the largest Costco in Texas, is expected to be completed by Aug. 31, 2026, with a $50 million capital investment.

During a Midland City Council meeting on Aug. 13, the city council approved an agreement with the Midland Development Corporation and Costco Wholesale Corporation to establish the new Costco.

According to the city officials, Costco is a top-requested amenity for Midland residents and is anticipated to stimulate development along the State Highway 191 corridor, an area currently underdeveloped and generating no tax revenue. The store will serve a market of more than 330,000 people in the Midland-Odessa area, with the nearest Costco currently two hours away.

The new store will be 20% larger than the average Costco location and will create approximately 100 full-time equivalent jobs. It will also cater to an existing base of 6,500 Costco cardholders in the region.
