Mayor Lori Blong praised the groundbreaking for a new Costco store as a significant milestone.
The mayor provided a recap of the event, which took place on December 10, in a post on her Facebook page. She and members of the Midland City Council joined community members and residents near the intersection of State Highway 191 and State Highway 158 to shovel dirt at the site described as the future home of what will be the largest Costco in Texas.
According to Blong, the groundbreaking felt like "a victory lap for a community that never stops dreaming big." Supported by a $50 million capital investment, the business is scheduled for a grand opening sometime in 2026.
Blong said that the store is "an investment in Midland jobs, families, and future," expressing gratitude to those who made this moment possible. "It's safe to say we're all ready to fill those Costco carts," she said. "The countdown begins."
