Midland City Hall recently welcomed a local Girl Scout Troop for a visit, where the girls had the opportunity to learn about how the city operates and the importance of civic engagement. Mayor Lori Blong, along with women from the police and fire departments, spent time with the girls, inspiring and sharing insights with them.
"It was inspiring to spend time with these future leaders and share insights into how our city government operates and the importance of civic engagement," Blong expressed. The visit took place on Oct. 20 and was acknowledged by the mayor in a Facebook post.
During the visit, the girls had the chance to discuss various aspects of city government and learn about the significance of being actively involved in their community. Blong concluded her post by expressing gratitude to the Girl Scouts for spending time at City Hall. She stated, "Thank you, Girl Scouts, for spending time with us."
The event was not only attended by Blong but also by members of the Midland Police Department, the Midland Fire Department, the Midland City Council, and City Council District 4. In her Facebook post, Blong extended her gratitude to these individuals as well. She specifically mentioned council members "Poole For City Council and Amy Stretcher Burkes for City Council District 4, along with the women from the police and fire departments." The mayor thanked them for taking the time to share their knowledge and inspire the young girls.
The Girl Scouts of the USA organization focuses on empowering young girls and encouraging them to be bold and joyful. According to its website, the organization teaches girls to take risks, trust their instincts, and collaborate with others for the greater good. The Girl Scouts offer various programs for girls from kindergarten to twelfth grade, including daisies, brownies, juniors, cadettes, seniors, and ambassadors. Their mission is to provide a space for girls to make friends, have fun, find adventure, give back to their community, lead in their own way, and earn badges and awards.
Blong's interaction with the local Girl Scout Troop, not only provided the girls with valuable insights into city government, but also served as an inspiration for their future leadership roles. The visit highlighted the importance of civic engagement and encouraged the girls to actively participate in their community.
