Midland College (MC) has announced that the West Texas Symphony Chamber Chorale will be performing a special, Latin American themed concert at the Wagner and Brown Auditorium in the campus's Allison Fine Arts Building. The concert, called "Serenata Latina," will take place on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

According to an announcement on the college's website, the purpose of the concert is to offer the local audience an opportunity to experience music they may not have heard before, and to introduce repertoire that challenges and inspires the members of the Chorale.

The West Texas Symphony Chamber Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Juan Hernandez, will serve as the conductor for the concert. Dr. Hyun Kyung Lee will accompany the chorale.

The concert will take the audience on a journey through countries with Latin American origins, including Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. The songs performed will be in languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, Quichua, Tucano, and Latin.

MC highlighted the rich musical heritage of Latin America, describing it as a product of centuries of various interactions and influences. The music blends indigenous flutes and drums, European harmonies introduced by conquistadors, and the intricate rhythms of African percussion, creating a distinctive musical landscape.

Tickets for the concert are priced at $25 for the public and $12 for students. They can be purchased online or at the door. Additionally, the West Texas Symphony encourages attendees to arrive early to view the art exhibit.

This Latin American themed concert at Midland College promises to be a unique and enriching experience for both the performers and the audience, showcasing the diverse and vibrant music of the region.
