The Midland Independent School District (MISD) has announced its plans to establish a bond advisory committee if voters approve a $1.4 billion bond next month. The bond aims to fund the construction of new Midland and Legacy high school facilities, a new elementary school, and improve safety and security throughout the Permian Basin public school district.
In an October 10th press release, district officials stated, "MISD administration is recommending to the board the formation of a Bond Advisory Committee to oversee all projects. The purpose is to provide the community with accountability and transparency as bond-funded projects progress."
This proposed committee is a departure from the previous "set it and forget it process," according to MISD. The committee will meet quarterly to receive updates on construction and project timelines, project costs, financial reports, and communication and marketing efforts until each project is completed.
Additionally, the Bond Advisory Committee will present yearly updates to the 100-member Bond Planning Committee throughout the duration of each project, culminating in a final report upon completion.
MISD reminds registered voters that early voting is scheduled to begin on October 23rd and run through November 3rd. Election Day is on November 7th.
