Midland High School 62, Andress High School 14
The Midland Bulldogs conquered their host in El Paso. Andress High School lost Friday's home non-conference game, 62-14.
The Eagles' score in the first quarter was not enough to pin down the visiting Bulldogs.
Midland High School shut out Andress in the second quarter as they took a 38-7 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs unleashed their strong performance in the next two quarters and eventually defeated the Eagles.
The Midland High School football varsity travel to San Angelo Central on Thursday, Oct. 5, to tackle the Bobcats.
Legacy High School 39, Judson High School 31
The Midland Legacy Rebel secured a 39-31 victory in Friday's home non-conference game against Judson, keeping the win well within striking distance.
it was nearly a close match at the Astound Broadband Stadium. The Judson Rockets were only 1 point away during the first quarter.
The game remained tightly contested throughout. Legacy held a 25-29 advantage as they entered the fourth quarter.
Elijah Favela connected with #14 Jack Call for a touchdown, putting Judson ahead 31-29 against Midland with still 11 minutes left.
The Rebels continued their impressive performance with a rushing touchdown, reclaiming the lead with the score at 35-31. The subsequent successful PAT extended their lead to 36-31. After the kickoff, the Rockets took possession at their own 34-yard line, still trailing at 36-31 with 9 minutes remaining in the final quarter. A subsequent punt gave Legacy the ball, now positioned at their own 18-yard line. They capitalized on this opportunity with a field goal, widening their lead to 39-31.
The game remained dynamic and action-packed as both teams vied for supremacy on the field but Midland Legay emerged victorious.
Permian High School 41, Cooper High School 20
In a non-conference game held at their home field, Cooper High School suffered a 41-20 defeat to Permian High School.
The Panthers started to dominate the Cougars when Permian secured a rushing touchdown, taking the lead at 6-0 against Cooper with 8 minutes remaining on the clock. Permian maintained their momentum, extending their lead to 13-0 with just 6 minutes remaining in the quarter. However, Cooper responded with a 10-yard pass, connecting with Jose Jara for a touchdown, reducing the deficit to 13-6. Juzstyce Lara broke through with an impressive 60-yard rushing touchdown, further solidifying the Panthers' lead at 19-6 against the Cougars.
Following a successful PAT, Permian increased their lead to 20-6 against Cooper and the score held steady until the onset of the second quarter. The Cougars put up a valiant effort to make a comeback, but by the time there were 7 minutes left in the third quarter, the Panthers had already extended their lead to 34-20. From that point on, Permian maintained their advantage and ultimately closed out the game with a final score of 41-20.
Odessa High School 31, Samuel Clemens High School 28
Odessa High Bronchos secured a hard-fought 31-28 victory against Clemens.
With 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter, Odessa found the end zone for the first time, courtesy of #3 Dejuan Green's 20-yard rushing touchdown, putting them ahead 6-0 against Clemens. They maintained their lead as they reached halftime with a score of 28-21.
Neither team managed to score during the third quarter.
With just 7 minutes remaining in the final quarter, the Buffaloes made a comeback as #7 completed a pass to #10 Hunter Lauinger for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 28-27. Following this pivotal score, #45 Ethan Brumgard made a successful PAT, leveling the game at 28-28.
With less than a minute remaining, the Bronchos secured a crucial field goal, pushing their score to 31-28. As the game concluded, Odessa emerged victorious with a final score of 31-28 over Clemens.
