The City of Midland’s Fire Department is hosting its 2023 MFD Fire Prevention Poster Contest, according to a press release. Students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade are welcome to participate.

“Calling all creative young minds in Midland,” the Midland Fire Department said in a Facebook post. “It's time to unleash your creativity and join the Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest!”

The theme of this year’s contest is "Cooking Safety Starts With You." Students will be expected to explore and display methods of keeping homes safe from potential house fires.

"Did you know that cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries?" the official contest poster read. "Cooking safety starts with you."

The posters are due at the MDF Central Fire Station located on 1500 W. Wall by 5 p.m. on Oct. 6. The winner will receive cash and prizes. All work must be completed by individual students, and only one entry per student is permitted.

“For all contest details, rules and regulations, please download and submit the form below with your child's poster,” Midland’s official site stated.

On Oct. 9, the posters will be reviewed by the members of the Midland Community, who will be tasked with selecting the winning poster. On Oct. 11, the winner will be announced at the Poster Contest Award Ceremony. During the remainder of the week, finalists' posters will be on display at the Midland Park Mall.

“The Midland Fire Department’s mission is to make a positive difference in our community by being a progressive, quality-driven organization through compassionate care, professional service and training and education,” the Fire Station said on the city’s official site.
