The Phyllis and Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series and Midland College invite the public to Animaniacs: In Concert! on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center, 3600 N. Garfield St.
“The show is a fabulously funny and joyful look back at what made Animaniacs such a special and successful top-rated show … its memorable (and educational) songs and unforgettable sketches,” the college said on its events calendar. “The live show celebrates the creative inspiration behind the songs with lots of audience interaction and never-before-told behind-the-scenes insider stories shared by voice actors.”
Animaniacs, a weekday afternoon television staple in the 1990s, was created by Warner Bros. and produced by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, the calendar said. It starred the “Warner siblings” – brothers Yakko and Wakko and their sister Dot – who canonically were imprisoned in the water tower at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif., in the 1930s but escaped some 60 years later.
The show famously included the anamorphic rodent duo of evil genius The Brain and his dimwitted sidekick Pinky.
General admission seating is free, and tickets aren’t required to view the show. Preferred seating is offered to Friends of the Series and distinguished donors, according to the calendar. Those interested in preferred seating can call the Midland College Foundation at (432) 685-4526.
Animaniacs in Concert stars the show’s original Emmy-winning composer, Randy Rogel, and Emmy-winning voice artist Rob Paulsen, who brought Yakko and Wakko to life during the cartoon’s heyday, the calendar said.
