Midland Animal Services will conclude its summertime adoption special this week. The last day to receive the special is Aug. 12, according to a NewsWest9 report.

“Midland Animal Services will be celebrating in Universal Birthday for Shelter dogs with a special adoption fee,” according to a NewsWest9 report.

The special offers a discounted rate of $20 for all required vaccinations, including microchip rabies and booster vaccinations, Parvo/distemper for dogs and FVRCP for cats. The bundle also includes a $70 voucher that can be allocated toward the spay or neuter operation for adopted pets.

The special is offered amid a few changes within the organization. Starting Aug. 15, the center will update its schedule to Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Midland Animal Services will also welcome Melissa Hobson as its new animal service manager, according to a recent CBS7 report. Hobson attended the center’s rescue runners’ event this past weekend, which gave local residents the chance to interact with animals currently housed at the center.

“I want to get with the community and see what their needs are and then educate them in animal care so that we are keeping animals with them versus a lot of owners surrendering,” Hobson said.

Under her new role, Hobson hopes to prioritize promoting knowledge to the community related to the proper care of pets, particularly to children, and continue building a team dedicated to finding pets a safe new home.

“We are looking at building a strong team and working with the animals with proper care and getting them adopted,” Hobson said. “The things that we enjoyed are how friendly people have been and how receptive they are. The community has been great.”

Midland Animal Services encourages locals with questions regarding adoption to contact shelter staff located at 1200 N. Fairgrounds Rd. at 432-685-7420.
