The Permian Basin Area Foundation (PBAF) has announced its 2023-2024 scholarship awards, according to a recent press release. The awards, totaling more than $1,190,000, were given to over 400 recipients, mainly across West Texas communities.

"Permian Basin Area Foundation is pleased to announce $1,190,753 in scholarship awards for the 2023-2024 academic school year," PBAF said in the release.

The funding for the scholarships, the release states, comes from donors to the foundation's scholarship fund. Since its establishment, the foundation has given out over $7.5 million in scholarships, according to the release. More information, including a list of PBAF scholars, is available in the press release.

According to the scholarships page of its website, the Permian Basin Area Foundation offers scholarships to those pursuing higher education and vocational opportunities, meaning eligible students are in college, graduate school or are graduating seniors in high school. There are a variety of different scholarships available, each "unique in its focus and criteria,” and an online application can be found on the PBAF website. The process will match the applicant with the potential scholarships they are best qualified for.

The Permian Basin Area Foundation is a philanthropic organization with a mission aimed at gathering donors together in order to create a permanent stream of charitable funds to better the lives of the citizens of West Texas, according to the site's about page. PBAF has given almost $100 million through scholarships and grants since its creation. They have a committee of financial leaders who oversee the use of assets, making sure that donors’ gifts are maximally utilized, according to the PBAF website.

Qualified nonprofits in the Permian Basin and TransPecos regions may also be eligible for PBAF grants, according to the foundation's website. Applications for grants are reviewed by a committee and are submitted in two cycles, fall and spring. The deadline for the fall cycle is Oct. 1and the deadline for the spring cycle is April 1, according to the website.
