The Midland Chamber of Commerce announced that the State of Education event for 2023 will take place on September 6. The chamber of Midland said this via an Instagram post on July 20.
"We are getting ready for our 2023 State of Education, on September 6, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the @bushconventioncenter!"
The event is hosted annually with the aim of spreading awareness about education within the Midland community, including the various hurdles and opportunities that are involved with education as a whole.
The event will feature Superintendent Stephanie Howard, who will discuss the wide-ranging and vast effects of education. The post states that the event will be held at the Bush Convention Center on September 6 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Midland Independent School District website says that Dr. Howard assumed the “Superintendent of Schools” position in 2023, although she has been in education for almost 30 years and served in a variety of leadership roles throughout her educational career.
She has degrees from multiple institutions, including a Doctoral from the University of Texas San Antonio. Dr. Howard came from a family of educators, with her father working as a teacher for more than 36 years and her mother driving school buses and working in the cafeteria.
According to the district's website, Midland ISD has been established for over 100 years and works to give students the opportunities needed to support them throughout their educational life.
Midland ISD has close to 28,000 students and its; schools have been ranked nationally. In 2022, one of their high schools was a “U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School” nominee.
Midland ISD aims to prepare every student to graduate ready for the next stage of life, whether it be college or a career.
