Midland tennis player Harper Colwell ranks in Girls’ 16 singles points bracket in week ending Sept. 3

Harper Colwell of Midland finished 23,275th in the United States Tennis Association’s Girls’ 16 bracket in the week ending Sept. 3.

They lost 12 points to finish the week with 21 single points.

Their ranking fell by 2,924 from the week before.

There are 53 USTA players from Midland across all age categories.

Players earn points per round in tournaments, winning higher points the further into a tournament they advance.

Jarett Cascino of New York Tennis Magazine says tennis is one of the most competitive youth sports.

“There is always someone better than you on any given day, even if you are the number one player in the world!” he said.
