The Legacy volleyball team went undefeated in District 2-6A, capturing the district title heading into the playoffs. After a first round victory over Montwood with a score of 3-1, the Legacy season ended in the regional round with a 3-1 loss to Southlake.
Although the season came to an early end for the Lady Rebels, Legacy was very well represented on the All-District 2-6A team, according to the Midland Reporter-Telegram. Lordana Fouonji came away with the MVP Award and Coach Rachel Anglin was Coach of the Year. Senior libero Sydney Leavitt was the Outstanding Defensive Specialist of the Year.
Three Legacy players made earned first team honors, including senior middle blocker Christallynn Tate, junior setter/outside hitter Kendall Harrington and senior setter Yani Flores. The second team also saw three players from Legacy including Callie McCright, Marisa Calzada and Haley Robinson. Honorable mentions were Hyla Riley and Jordyn Tarter.
For All-Academic, Legacy players included Fouonji, Harrington, Sydney Leavitt, Alejandra Garcia, Calzada and Sophia Thompson.
In a key game against rival Midland as the season closed, Legacy senior Fouonji led the way with eight kills, seven blocks and three aces. Fouonji was pleased with the way the team closed out the season heading into the state tournament.
“The fact that we’ve come so far and that we’ve actually achieved that, it’s beyond amazing,” Fouonji said.
