Seminole High School has hired a new head football coach to take over for the Seminole Indians, according to News West 9.
A native of Portales, New Mexico, Greg Poyner will be the new head coach and boys athletic director. Poyner previously coached at Pampa High School for seven years, leading the team to victory for four of those seasons, and he also coached at Lubbock Roosevelt for six years.
“Being the face of the football program at a place like Seminole ISD is an awesome responsibility,” Poyner said according to a news release by the Seminole ISD. “I truly believe I will do a great job as the ambassador for Seminole.”
Poyner will be replacing Ty Palmer who will be staying on as an assistant coach. In January, Palmer stepped down as head coach and stated that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
During his two seasons as head coach for the Seminole, Palmer’s record was 12-11 and in 2020, the Indians went two rounds into the post-season before ending with a first round exit.
