Staff at South Elementary returned to school this week and received a visit from Wes Perry, the chairman of the oil and gas company PBEX.

According to a Facebook post from Midland Independent School District (ISD), the company donated to the teachers at the school. "PBEX has been a Partner in Education for the campus for the past two years and today, Wes Perry came to South to present a crisp $100 bill to every staff member," the school wrote. "Mr. Perry says it was the best way PBEX could support the work of teachers and express their appreciation for the important work they do! #EngageAndAct."

According to the district's website, this initiative is part of the Partners in Education program. The Midland Chamber of Commerce established this program, which is now operated by the Midland Education Foundation. The initiative encourages businesses to adopt a campus by supporting various needs, such as teacher appreciation and student initiatives not covered by campus budgets.

According to the PBEX website, the company was formed by Perry, Matt Buckingham, Brooks Perry, and Chas Perry in 2012. PBEX engages in acquiring, leasing, developing, and producing oil and gas properties with a focus on the Permian Basin.
