RigUp and imaware are teaming up to offer COVID-19 screening and testing to Permian Basin energy-sector workers who cannot work from home.
RigUp has screened about 100 workers so far, and hopes to increase that number to 150 by the end of the weekend, NewsWest9 reported.
“We’re all in remote areas so we wanted to bring this to where the core of our workforce is, which is you know Permian Basin, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo,” Leslie Elliott, managing director of RigUp told NewsWest9.
When given the chance to be tested, workers will be classified as either low, medium or high risk. Those deemed medium or high risk will get a swab taken that day and will receive their test results within three days.
RigUp is receiving test kits from imaware, a digital health organization, at no cost with the hope that their partnership will expand statewide and eventually all over the country.
“Hopefully, it's something we’ll be able to continue to build upon and offer to our workforce across the U.S. very quickly here,” Elliott said.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that Texas recorded 15,492 cases of COVID-19 as of April 16. The state is among many under a stay-at-home order.
