A resident of Midland, Texas, is taking advantage of social distancing to mow lawns around the area for free.
Steve Tami-Fourqurean has been mowing lawns free of cost in the Permian Basin area. It may not be a way of fighting against the coronavirus, but Tami-Furqurean said it's his way of offering a service to the community to help make residents' lives a little bit easier during this hard time.
“It started with just my own boredom,” Tami-Fourqurean told CBS 7. “Just needed to get out of the house and go do something. Kept getting responses and messages and the more it went on, kinda the bigger it got to a point I can’t quit now.”
He said he enjoys being outside and is an outdoorsman like many residents of West Texas.
“Yeah I just enjoy being outdoors that’s meant more to me than anything. If it means something to. If it means something to the people I’m mowing for that’s just an added bonus," he said to CBS 7.
Tami-Fourqurean said he is following the city safety regulations for the COVID-19 pandemic but also has plenty of free time on his hands these days. He said he uses mowing lawns as an opportunity to get out of his house.
Not only that, but he said he enjoys mowing grass and helping out his community.
“Oddly enough I enjoy mowing,” Tami-Fourqurean told CBS 7. “It’s just satisfying to me to mow. Everybody right now is kinda hurting. This doesn’t cost me anything but some time which I’ve got plenty of it.”
Tami-Fourqurean told CBS 7 that he began mowing lawns on Tuesday. Since then, he has been getting plenty of direct messages on Facebook asking to mow more lawns in the community.
His goal is to mow 1,000 lawns and to help be a free service to the Permian Basin.
