What began as the trip of a lifetime became ensnared in uncertainty as Midland Christian students were caught in Europe when President Trump announced a travel ban.

The trip, hosted through World Strides, was scheduled to run through March 21 when the ban on travel in Europe was announced on March 11 to help slow the spread of COVID-19. NewsWest9 indicated there are 72 students on the trip.

The group was in Madrid, Spain when the news broke. A Homeland Security press release indicated the suspension of entry into the United States did not apply to legal permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation.

The school’s Twitter site indicated the group would return Saturday but there was a question regarding whether or not the students should be quarantined.

Michael Dean, one of the parent-sponsors on the trip, told NewsWest9 the bottom line was God is in control and he knew “the group was safe and would be able to go back home,” in response to the travel ban.
