Midland Animal Services is set to relaunch its Rescue Runners program on April 5, 2025. The initiative, which invites volunteers to walk or run with shelter dogs, will occur twice a month. The program aims to provide necessary enrichment for the animals and enhance their social skills.
The city highlights the benefits of these outings: “Recognizing the stressful nature of the shelter environment, this program provides vital enrichment and aids in improving the dogs' social skills,” it states on its website. “These outings offer a glimpse into the dogs' personalities outside the kennel, which can significantly boost fostering and adoption efforts.”
Rescue Runners will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays each month at Midland Animal Services located at 1200 N. Fairgrounds. During each session, up to 12 dogs will participate, with one dog assigned per person or couple.
Volunteers interested in joining are encouraged to register through an Eventbrite link provided by Midland Animal Services.
