Stand-up comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes brought her "Family Reunion" tour to Wagner Noël PAC on March 16.
Known for her viral nail salon skit, Johnson-Reyes built a successful career as a comedian, actress, author, and podcaster.
Born in San Jose, California, she dreamed of acting but hesitated to admit it. "I dreamed of being an actress, but would never really say that out loud because I was embarrassed," she told Midland Times. A friend’s move to Hollywood helped her get started.
After moving to Los Angeles, she worked as an extra on the show "Friends" before landing speaking roles and performing stand-up at a church. "When that nail salon joke blew up, it was kinda like comedy pursued me versus the other way around," she said.
Now, she shares stories about motherhood and marriage. "My hope is always that my audience takes away joy from my show," she said. "And that joy would remain."
