A tournament showcasing eSports competition is set to occur next month, organized by Midland College (MC).
According to an announcement on Facebook, a Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament for eSports will take place on Saturday, March 1, at the Scharbauer Student Center. "This tournament is a fundraiser supporting MC's new eSports program, with all proceeds helping to upgrade equipment and grow the Permian Basin eSports community," MC said.
Interested participants must pay a $10 entry fee that will allow them to participate in singles and doubles tournaments, according to the post. The itinerary for the tournament includes participants checking in at 3 p.m., competing in the double tournament at 4 p.m., and the singles tournament at 6 p.m. "We’ve adjusted the schedule to allow more players to compete. Join us to support Midland College eSports and test your skills," the college added.
Prizes for first, second, and third place in both tournaments will be awarded, as indicated on the event’s website. The Midland College eSports program aims to use these funds to purchase more games and host additional tournaments. The tournament will adhere to a Unified North America Ruleset, which is a standardized set of competitive rules for Super Smash Bros.
