The Midland Police Department (MPD) has announced that Sergeant Ryan Raines is a nominee for the city’s Be the Energy (BTE) Award.
According to a Facebook post by the MPD, Raines was nominated for his actions during a recent apartment fire. The department reported that he assisted in rescuing tenants before the arrival of the Midland Fire Department (MFD).
The officer used his vehicle to help lower residents to safety before the fire truck arrived "without hesitation," according to the police department. "His quick thinking and selflessness ensured that three individuals were able to escape unharmed," said the post.
The MPD expressed gratitude towards Raines for his response to the incident. "(He exemplified) what it truly means to Be the Energy," said the police in their post. The accolade derives its name from the city's motto. The city distributed its first BTE awards in December 2023 to city employees who contributed to reducing the cost of demolishing abandoned buildings.
