Midland airport sees significant passenger increase in December

The number of passengers at Midland International Air & Space Port saw a significant increase in December, rising by 33.5% since 2022. The total for December 2024 reached 66,322 passengers, marking a 7.46% rise over the previous year’s figure of 61,716 and significantly surpassing the December 2022 total of 49,675.

Additionally, the airport set a new record with 196,926 passengers recorded in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024-25. This represents a growth of 6.94% compared to the same period in FY 2023-24.

Southwest Airlines accounted for approximately 45% of all passengers during December. Other airlines operating at Midland include United, American Eagle, and Delta.

City officials also noted an increase in parking revenue at the airport. The net parking revenue for December was $736,467, reflecting a growth of 20.18% compared to December 2023. For the fiscal year-to-date total, parking revenue increased by 9.74%, reaching $2.16 million.

The additional funds from increased passenger numbers and parking revenue are planned to support infrastructure improvements at Midland International Air & Space Port. These improvements include terminal modernization, relocation of passenger screening areas, and expansions to parking facilities.
