A local nonprofit has announced that a group of Midland College (MC) students assisted the organization in organizing items to find them new homes.
According to a Facebook post by Thriving United, the students packed items from the organization’s G.I.F.T. closet and transported them to the Baptist Crisis Center. The nonprofit provides recovery services for individuals facing substance use disorder, mental illness, eating disorders, and trauma. "Thanks to their hard work and dedication, what we thought might take all day was finished in record time," they wrote.
Thriving United further said that the Baptist Crisis Center will assist in distributing the items and expressed gratitude towards the MC students for their help in redistributing the items. "Thank you for showing up, working hard, and reminding us of the power of service," wrote Thriving United.
Meredith Walker, MC’s director of scholarships, also praised the community partnership on Facebook and acknowledged the students' "selfless action" in aiding the organization. "Proud to call them my students. To our donors of Midland College, these are the students you are investing in," Walker said in her post. "What a great way to #Reimagine what we are doing in our community, for our community."
