The initial phase of Beal Park's renovation has been disclosed through a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
According to the filing, Phase I of the $15.4 million project will encompass renovations of the grass soccer field, artificial turf fields, and the addition of 168,830 square feet of new parking. The plan also includes 1,520,610 square feet of cleared open space, a rain garden, shade trellis, shade structures, concrete walks, and site furnishings. The January 7 filing indicates that Phase I involves over 2.6 million square feet.
City of Midland Parks and Recreation Manager Laurie Williams is identified as the contact for this project in the TDLR documentation. The architectural elements are being managed by the local office of Dunaway design firm. The project is scheduled to begin on January 13 and conclude by October 6. Beal Park is situated at 5200 W. Wall St.
Last month, Midland Times reported that City Council approved a $1.75 million donation from ExxonMobil for naming rights to the playground and soccer complex included in Beal Park's renovation. These areas will be designated as the ExxonMobil Soccer Complex and ExxonMobil Playground. The complex will feature up to 62 soccer fields designed for children of all ages.
