A Midland police officer has been recognized with a Be The Energy (BTE) award for his assistance to a traveler at the airport.

Officer David LaBorde was nominated for the award after he "went above and beyond to assist an out-of-town visitor at Midland International Air & Space Port," according to the Midland Police Department. "When she felt unsafe walking to a distant overflow lot in the dark, Officer LaBorde stepped in, offering a ride and ensuring she made it back safely," the department said in a Facebook post. "His kindness and dedication are a true reflection of the positive impact he makes in our community." The department also expressed gratitude for his service.

According to an X post, the city distributed its first BTE awards in December 2023 to city employees who contributed to reducing the cost of demolishing abandoned buildings.
