Midland Habitat for Humanity is set to develop an affordable housing project following the approval of rezoning at a recent Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
According to submitted documents, Executive Director Joey Hopkins is leading the initiative, which will create 38 single-family lots on a 17.18-acre property. The land, located at the southeast corner of North Fairgrounds Road and East Cynthia Drive, was donated by Endeavor Energy Resources.
City documents indicate that Kyle Newton from local civil engineers Newton Engineering, PC represented the project during the commission meeting. The site will transition from agricultural estate district (AE) zoning to planned development district zoning when the City Council votes on the recommendation in an upcoming meeting.
Midland Habitat for Humanity required this rezoning to proceed with developing the proposed single-family residential subdivision, as such developments are not permitted under AE district zoning. According to submitted documents, properties north of the proposed subdivision are zoned for housing developments and currently consist of vacant lots and single-family residences. To the west, properties are zoned PD for recreation centers, with further areas consisting of vacant lots and single-family residential subdivisions.
