The Preserve is set to be a major catalyst for economic growth in the West Midland area. Local officials believe the project will contribute to job creation and infrastructure development, and that it will enhance the city's appeal as a family-friendly destination.
According to Elizabeth Triggs, Planning and Development Officer for the City of Midland, The Preserve is a transformative investment that will enhance the quality of life for residents.
Triggs says that the large development will offer “a key family-friendly amenity in a community where more than 18% of the population is under 10 years old.” According to Triggs, it will “boost Midland’s appeal as a place to live and work, attracting families, businesses, and visitors while driving economic growth through tourism and local spending.”
The development is expected to play an important role in Midland’s economy, which has historically been dependent on the oil and gas industry. The Preserve will expand opportunities in tourism, recreation, and hospitality, creating a more sustainable economic foundation for the future, according to Triggs.
She notes that the project will “diversify the economy and enhance Midland’s appeal to families, visitors, and businesses, playing an important role in workforce retention and attraction.”
In a previous interview with Midland Times, Ian Denholm, co-founder of The Preserve, discussed the economic impact of The Preserve. "Between property tax, sales tax, and a significant amount of employment, The Preserve will have a tremendous positive economic impact on our city." He explained that these aspects of the development will contribute to the city's economic growth in the future.
The development also aligns with the city’s long-term strategic plan, which focuses on diversifying the economy and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The vision includes fostering new local industries, improving recreational and tourism opportunities, and creating a thriving environment for families. The Preserve will play an important role in fulfilling the goals.
Tourism is expected to see a significant boost from The Preserve, as the family-friendly development will attract visitors from across the region. Triggs believes that the development will bring local and regional tourists to Midland, leading to increased spending on hotels, dining, and shopping.
“This revenue supports local businesses, creates jobs, and generates additional funds for local taxing entities,” Triggs said. “These funds can then be reinvested into infrastructure, parks, health, safety, and education, further enhancing quality of life for all Midland residents.”
