The city of Midland commemorated December 5 as the 95th anniversary of the Yucca Theatre.
According to a Facebook post attributed to the city, the live entertainment venue, colloquially known as the Yucca, has been a Tall City icon since it first opened its doors nearly a century ago. The theater initially hosted vaudeville shows and premiered "Rio Rita."
The Yucca emerged from the vision of oilman T.S. Hogan and architect Wyatt Hedrick, according to the post citing the Cinema Sources website. Today, it houses the Summer Mummers, which marked its 75th year in show business last year, and is considered a part of Midland’s history.
The theater is located at 2000 W. Wadley Ave. Its business hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with box office hours from Tuesday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
