In an interview with Midland Times, District 1 City Councilman Brian Stubbs discusses securing the council seat.
MT: What message would you like to convey to your supporters and constituents who helped make this victory possible?
First, a big thank you to everyone. I was able to meet many great Midlanders throughout my campaign. I am always impressed with the amazing people that live in and care for Midland. Our great city is only possible from the hard work of great people.
Second, I had such a great team helping me on my campaign. It’s impossible to run a successful campaign without an amazing team. We ran an amazing campaign because of the people helping me.
Third, to the people who supported me and I have not met, a big thank you. It takes a lot of trust to elect someone you do not know to an office. I realize what it means to be entrusted with the role of councilman by the voters and I’m excited to represent them and the city of Midland
MT: Were there any individuals or groups that had a significant impact on your candidacy or anyone you would like to specifically thank?
There were so many great groups I met with during my campaign. I was able to see how groups have come together to better Midland by making issues better to understand and explain the issue. From the fire department, police department, Board of Realtors, supporters of our golf courses, church groups, political associations and many more, Midland has great people working hard to ensure Midland is growing to be better for all. These groups show the passion and vigor it is going to take to continue to make Midland great.
MT: What does this win mean to you personally and professionally?
I’m always focused on growing, not just myself, but the people around me. This campaign has taught me a new level and category of growth. I have spoken to so many people and obtained information from all of them.
I strive to represent District 1 by learning as much as I can. In order to do that, I need to hear many different perspectives and viewpoints to understand what is important to our district. Being entrusted with helping solve the issues and obstructions the residents of District 1 encounter mean we all have to grow to find new, innovative and effective solutions as a community. This is my focus right now to ensure I am growing the people around me to make Midland better for all.
