All participants in Midland Independent School District's (MISD) Education and Training program are advancing to a state competition after participating in the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) Area Conference in Levelland.
According to a news release from the school district, over 40 students will be headed to the Teach Tomorrow Summit scheduled for Galveston this spring. The group consists of students from Midland Freshman High School, Legacy High School, Legacy Freshman High School, Coleman High School, and Midland High School. The students competed against 350 students from across West Texas at the TAFE.
Abigail Gutierrez from Midland High School and Aaliya Martinez from Coleman High School advanced in multiple categories, according to the news release. Legacy High School is sending 15 students to state, Midland High School is sending 13 students, Midland Freshman High School is sending six students, Legacy Freshman High School is sending three students, and Coleman High School is sending four students. Martinez and Mariana Serrano from Coleman High School were named TAFE Area Officers for 2025-26.
The news release states that MISD's Education and Training program provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in teaching through practice, career training, and leadership development. Students involved in the program participate in various educational categories and earn certification, preparing them for a future in the teaching profession.
