A cold front is expected to move into the Permian Basin this week, resulting in temperatures in Midland remaining below 70 degrees throughout the week.
According to the National Weather Service, isolated showers are forecasted for Sunday evening with a low of 56 degrees. Monday's temperature will rise to 69 degrees with a low of 45 and wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. On Tuesday, the city is expected to reach a high of 67 and a low of 48 before temperatures increase on Wednesday to a high of 76 with a low of 52.
The National Weather Service further forecasts that Midland will experience a high of 64 on Thursday and a low of 52 in the evening, with a chance of scattered showers. Showers are predicted to continue into Friday, with temperatures reaching a high of 65 and dropping to a low of 44. Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high of 68.
Last month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced predictions for a warmer and drier winter across the southern part of the United States. Texas and southern New Mexico have been identified as having the highest likelihood of experiencing drier-than-average conditions, with most areas in Texas anticipated to see warmer-than-average temperatures.
"This winter, an emerging La Niña is anticipated to influence the upcoming winter patterns, especially our precipitation predictions," said Jon Gottschalck, chief of the Operational Prediction Branch at NOAA's Climate Prediction Center.
