Fall has been unusually warm across much of the state, with temperatures reaching into the 90s. However, Halloween is expected to bring a break from the heat and a chance for storms.
According to The Weather Channel, Sunday through Wednesday will see highs in the upper to mid-80s. On Halloween, sunny skies are forecasted with a high of 72 and a low of 59, alongside a 50% chance of thunderstorms. The week will begin with warm temperatures in Midland.
"Much of the lower 48 will remain warm and dry through Sunday," said Walter Otto, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). "This will be due to a lack of higher atmospheric moisture and the stabilizing influence of high pressure from the Great Plains to the East Coast." Otto added that locations south of the progressive cold front, from the Southeast into Texas, as well as portions of the Southwest, would experience high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above late October averages this weekend. "Highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s across the Deep South may break a few daily high temperature records."
According to NWS data, Midland's average temperature for October is approximately 66.5 degrees. In recent years, this figure was recorded at 64.9 degrees in 2020, increased to 68.5 degrees in 2021, stood at an average high of 64.1 degrees in October 2022, and reached an average of 66.6 degrees in 2023.
