The Midland Rape Crisis and Children's Advocacy Center (MRCCAC) is mourning the loss of a cherished canine volunteer.

According to an October 14 Facebook post by the MRCCAC, Shannon, who served as a therapy dog for six years, was more than just a dog to the organization. "She was family, a comforter, and a best friend," the post said. Shannon reportedly enjoyed her work at the MRCCAC.

In addition to her service at MRCCAC, Shannon volunteered at The Village at Manor Park retirement community and Centennial Library. At the library, she participated in Dog Tales, a program designed to help children improve their reading skills by reading aloud to her.

The MRCCAC praised Shannon for her unique ability to perceive emotional needs and offer solace to those in need. The Midland Police Department (MPD) also paid tribute to Shannon in its own Facebook post, acknowledging her invaluable role in supporting child victims during numerous investigations.
