Midland College is set to host a special event during their softball game against Western Texas College on April 19. The Lady Chaps aim not only for victory but also to honor individuals significant to the team. The match will take place at MC Lady Chaps Field, starting at 12:30 p.m.

The event will pay tribute to Richard Lopez, father of sophomore infielder Lauren Lopez, who has recently completed cancer treatment. "Navigating a journey with cancer is a deeply personal experience and we are grateful that Mr. Lopez has shared his journey with the Midland College family," said Angel Castro, Head Softball Coach at Midland College. Lauren Lopez expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am who I am because of my dad."

Additionally, the college will recognize three employees who have contributed significantly to the softball program: Amy Hernandez, Associate Director of Admissions & Pathways Advising; and Groundskeepers Dake Schmidt and Jacob White. Coach Castro remarked on their importance by saying, "Amy, Jacob and Dake have all been a pivotal part of the success of this program."

The schedule includes food service from La Patrona Taqueria LLC starting at 12:30 p.m., followed by employee recognition at 12:55 p.m., and the ceremonial first pitch by Richard Lopez at 1 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend and support the Lady Chaps.
