The Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF) has set a new fiscal year record for airline passengers with just a month remaining in FY 2024. The figure surpasses last year's record total of 661,842 passengers.
According to a September 17 Facebook post by MAF, 679,622 travelers have departed from the airport during an 11-month span in 2023-2024.
MAF recorded 63,704 passengers last month, exceeding the 57,282 accounted for in August 2023.
Mayor Lori Blong said in a September 18 post on her Facebook page that the increase is a testament to the hard work of the airport staff and the strength of the local economy. "Whether it’s American Eagle, Delta, Southwest, or United, more people are choosing Midland as their launch pad for business, family visits, and new adventures," Blong said.
Blong also noted that parking revenues reflect this growth. The $697,928 collected in August brings the FY total to $7.5 million.
According to its website, MAF ranks eighth among primary commercial service airports in Texas. The airport is owned and operated by the city of Midland and offers more than 20 daily departures to several major airports including Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Denver International Airport (DEN).
