A record amount of items, including clothing, shoes, and toys, was donated to foster families and the First Baptist Crisis Center at Rhea Lana's children's consignment resell event on Sept. 6. The event was held at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena.
“Rhea Lana’s is proud to donate to area foster families and First Baptist Crisis Center because we know we are truly helping our community,” said Natalie Nolen, owner of Rhea Lana’s Midland-Odessa Franchise.
The First Baptist Crisis Center has been a vital resource for the Midland community since 1982. It offers essential services to individuals and families facing financial hardship. The center primarily focuses on providing food and clothing.
According to Michelle Martinez, Executive Director of the First Baptist Crisis Center, “donations this year far exceed years past.” She said the center is “so thankful to the consignment families for donating and supporting” the center’s mission.
Foster families in the region, particularly those from smaller West Texas towns, benefit from the contributions. Rhea Lana’s allows foster families to come in after the final sale and shop for necessities.
The influx of shoppers from surrounding communities indicates that the event is helpful for many families beyond the local area. “A large portion of our shoppers are from outside of Midland and Odessa looking for bargains, and to help during this inflation surge," said Nolen.
