In the second game of Thursday night's doubleheader at Momentum Bank Ballpark, Junior Perez hit an RBI double to left-center, breaking a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning. The RockHounds sealed the win with a game-ending double play in the seventh inning, securing their spot in the Texas League Playoffs, according to a press release by Bob Hards of the Midland RockHounds.
Amarillo didn’t go down easily. After winning the first game 5-4 in extra innings, the Sod Poodles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap.
The RockHounds answered with a three-run rally in the fourth, sparked by two key hits on 0-2 counts. Will Simpson started the rally with a double to left-center, and Perez capped it with a single to left, giving the RockHounds a 3-2 lead.
Amarillo’s Caleb Roberts tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth inning, his second in three games. However, Jack Winkler's leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth set the stage for Perez, who drove in his third run of the night, clinching the RockHounds' playoff berth.
