Midland County to develop $20 million court and death investigations facility

Midland County has another project that is expected to break ground soon, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

The $20 million project, registered under the working title "Midland County Courthouse Annex - JP Courts & Death Investigators Buildings," is expected to begin on Oct. 15 and run until April 20, 2026, according to TDLR. The project involves the construction of a new 49,622 square-foot Justice of the Peace Court and a 4,923 square-foot death investigators building. The total square footage is 54,545.

According to TDLR, County Judge Terry Johnson is spearheading the project that will be located at 301 S. Main Street. Burns Architecture, LLC, out of Galveston, is the design team that worked with the county on the project.

According to the Midland County Appraisal District, the roughly 1-acre property is developed with a 20,160 square-foot building that was originally constructed in 1981. The site has a market value of $56,890.
