The Sibley Nature Center's Camera Club in Midland, Texas, has become a vibrant community hub for photography enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Founded in 2008 by Richard Galle, a photographer working for the Sibley Nature Center, the club was born from a simple idea: to create a space where like-minded individuals can come together and share their passion for photography, according to club coordinator Alicia Fulton.

"Richard was the only photographer at the time, and he was asked to start it up," Fulton said. "What began as a small gathering of enthusiasts has grown into something much more significant over the years."

Fulton said the Camera Club has evolved significantly since its inception. Its evolution reflects the club's commitment to staying relevant in a rapidly changing digital age, where photography is more accessible than ever.

"The main evolution for our club has been moving from just monthly meetings to involving social media and outings," Fulton said. "We've also become more involved with the community, which has really helped us grow."

Today, the Camera Club offers a variety of classes and workshops designed to cater to photographers of all skill levels, offering photography basics, editing classes, off-camera flash and even videography. Fulton also said the Club bring in a variety of speakers who share their experiences and provide insights into advancing a career in photography and selling artwork. The group will also take field trips.

Looking ahead, the Club has ambitious goals.

"We want to grow our membership, get more involved in the community, and collaborate with other photography organizations," Fulton said. "We're also aiming to provide more outreach through workshops and camps."

Beyond the technical skills and creative expression, the Camera Club fosters a sense of community. Fulton said photography brings people together with shared interests, regardless of background or age.

"It's a great way to network and get involved in community events," she said.

With meetings held on the first Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the Sibley Nature Center Camera Club welcomes everyone, from beginners to professionals.

"No experience is needed," Fulton said. "We'd love for anyone to come to a meeting and see what we're all about."
