Gifts of Hope will host the fourth annual “Pink in the Park” event on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Downtown Centennial Park to raise money and support those with breast cancer.
The event is a result of a partnership with the “Young & the Breastless” breast cancer support group. Previously known as Pink the Park, the event was revamped in 2021.
“We worked with Centennial Park, who let us pink their logo, and created a free community event to raise awareness, educate, and most importantly celebrate with breast cancer fighters and survivors in our community,” Clint Dickson, Executive Director of Gifts of Hope, told Midland Times.
Attendees will have access to educational resources on breast cancer prevention and treatment. Various community agencies and groups will provide information about the importance of annual screenings, health advocacy, and available resources for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Participating organizations include Midland Health, Texas Oncology, Pink the Basin, and Home Health. Additionally, the Girl Scouts will share information about their founder, who passed away from breast cancer.
This year’s event will feature Donna Cannon, founder of the Young & the Breastless support group, who will discuss her experiences. “She has been able to turn her cancer journey into a group full of love, support and joy,” said Dickson. Young & the Breastless is also celebrating its 20th anniversary.
“The biggest goal of this event is to raise awareness that many women and even some men are affected every year by breast cancer, but it doesn’t have to rob someone of their joy and life,” Dickson said. “The Young & the Breastless group celebrates life and offers community for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer.”
The event will include several activities such as a victory lap, a ribbon wall, a survivor fashion show, local vendors, raffle items, food trucks, music, games, prizes, and photo opportunities.
