The Walmart at 200 W Interstate 20 will soon have a Golden Chick within its premises, according to a filing with a state regulatory agency.
According to the filing, the $350,000 renovation project involves rehabbing a 2,200-square-foot space to facilitate a food service outlet. Construction is scheduled to begin on Aug. 15 and is expected to wrap up by Oct. 15. J. B. Dowden, a senior manager with Walmart’s realty project team, is leading the project under the entity Walmart Real Estate Business Trust.
Golden Chick, formerly known as Golden Fried Chicken, is a quick-service restaurant franchise headquartered in Richardson, according to the company’s website. There are two locations currently operating in Midland. The company opened its first location in 1967 in San Marcos and is among the top 200 U.S. brands today.
In January, Golden Chick hired Sharon Pewitt as director of marketing, according to Nation’s Restaurant News. "I think coming into this space as somebody a little younger is exciting because it gives that fresh perspective of ‘here’s how I’m viewing the world, here’s how to reach people that I interact with on a daily basis, and here’s how to incorporate that into a brand that’s 50-plus years old,’" Pewitt said. "Golden Chick has had a lot of reimagining over the years, and I think we’re on the cusp of figuring out the audience of the future and how to speak to younger audiences. It’s great to bring that fresher perspective to meetings."
According to Nation's Restaurant News, Pewitt served as the main contact for Golden Chick’s creative partner, the Loomis agency, for six years and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014.
