A $8.5 million travel center is expected to start construction in August, according to a state regulatory filing.

An 11,332 square-foot Tarzan & Jane Travel Center is slated to begin construction on Aug. 10 and wrap up by Aug. 10, 2025, according to the filing. The developer of the project is Midland-based Covington Brothers Properties LLC, led by Seth and Zach Covington. The parent company of Tarzan Grill (TJ Travel Center).

According to the filing, the development involves the construction of a gas station and retail space with sit-in dining, food preparation, coffee brewers, prep areas, cooler, and an RO water system.

The Houston-based design firm Rose-Villacorte Architecture LLC is on board the project team.

According to the company’s website, TJ Travel Center locations can be found in Tarzan, Stanton, Greenwood and Midland. The Covington brothers came to West Texas in 2012 due to the oil boom but quickly shifted to food and opened up a food truck in 2013 before constructing their first store in Tarzan in 2014.
