Aschten Aguilar, who has a role in Landman, said he wrote his song two years ago while transitioning to country music from his previous work, learning quickly how authentic one must be in country music, which led him to focus on writing about his own experiences. Aguilar was a guest on a recent episode of the Best of Midland Podcast.
"I wrote that song two years ago when I was trying to do country, a year and a half ago," said Aguilar on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. "Because I switched from Akeelah, and I just started doing Ash and Spencer because it sounds more country. It's my name. All the greats have their own names.”
“I was doing little dive bars here and there, and I learned really quickly how true you have to be in the country because it's only you and the guitar,” Aguilar said. “You don't have a bass and all these lights and stuff all the time. I tried that and I got knocked down pretty hard, it was hard and it was a big kind of eye-opener. I've always been a good writer, and I was in the field one day and I was like, well, I'll just start writing about what I'm doing.”
Aguila will be on Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming show, Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore. He has a background in the oil fields and a passion for music.
