Hunter Haynie is making strides in Midland with nonprofit work and a commitment to community service. He is the Community Engagement Coordinator for United Way of Midland, where he helps oversee programs like Project Blueprint and others.

Haynie gave Midland Times a brief history of his background to explain how he landed in his current position. He said he started a lawn mowing business in Midland in high school and worked through college helping elderly neighbors with home chores. His community service later included delivering meals with Senior Life Midland and participating in mission trips through Christ Church Midland.

He has participated in seven mission trips to Zuni Native American tribes in New Mexico, is an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association in West Texas and serves as a Midland College Alumni Committee member. Haynie says the experiences fueled a passion for helping others and guided his pursuit of higher education.

His formal education began at Midland College, where he completed an associates degree before graduating from Texas Tech in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations & Strategic Communications. He also received a minor in Advertising.

"Working with Hunter as the Community Engagement Coordinator for United Way has been a fascinating experience," said Tracy Renton, Development Director with Senior Life Midland, who has known Haynie for 17 years. "I’ve watched him grow and mature into a remarkable young man.”
