The Pink Pug, at 4300 Midland Dr Suite 109 & 111 in Midland, is a boutique known for its fun, fashionable offerings and stands out as a unique and vibrant shopping destination. It's the brainchild of owner Ashley Roland, whose passion for fashion and creativity ignited the concept.
The boutique—now with three Texas locations and one in California— is inspired by Roland's love for pugs and the color pink.
Roland told Midland Times that her journey into the world of retail began modestly.
"I was creating handmade jewelry, sewing tutus, anything I could," she said. "You know those horrible, big, chunky stone necklaces that were in style? Oh, yes!"
Initially, Roland showcased her creations at pop-up shows while maintaining her "real" job. This side hustle steadily grew, leading Ashley and her sister to discover the perfect starting location in Farmersville, TX.
"We had no idea what we were doing," she said. "I was living in Midland, and when that location became available, I just went for it!"
The Pink Pug soon outgrew its initial space in Farmersville, prompting a move to Midland. Roland's dedication and vision have seen the business expand to four stores, including a recent opening in California.
Reflecting on her achievements, she said, "My biggest accomplishment would probably be being able to purchase my building for our second location in Granbury's historic downtown square... or it could be opening our fourth store location last month, in California of all places!"
What sets The Pink Pug apart is its authentic and quirky style. "It evolved by starting off selling what I thought everyone wanted to see. Now I sell 'me' and what I want to wear! All things pink, bad influence, funky and fun! People wanted authenticity," Roland said.
Authenticity shows in the store's offerings, which range from snarky and sparkly items to sizes S-3XL and even goods for men. And in its fun name, which combines Roland's favorite color with her love for dogs.
“Simply, I’m the crazy pug lady!” she said. “I have no kids, I work hard so my dogs can have the best life! I’m all about pink- pink hair, pink truck and trailer, pink has always has been my favorite color. It just fit!”
Looking ahead, Roland's goals for The Pink Pug are clear. "I want to remain steady for a while. 'Get better, not bigger.' Learn to say no and enjoy my herd of rescue dogs. There's four now!"
Beyond its unique products, The Pink Pug significantly impacts the community. "We want it to be an experience when you walk in the doors," Roland said. "We have something for everyone who wants to laugh. We also try to donate to local events and causes that are near and dear to our hearts."
The Pink Pug continues to be a beacon of fun and fashion, making a lasting impression on those who walk through its doors.
